A Quick Guide to WinUAE and Emulating an Amiga

The Amiga 1200 in happier times

Ever wish you could turn back the clock and run all those Amiga games and applications on your PC? Well maybe you should try UAE (Unix Amiga Emulator). A few years ago you would have got just about A500 performance on a top spec PC, however times change and using the current version of WinUAE and a moderate spec PC you can easilly achieve speeds in excess of 3 or 4 x 060/66. Not only do you have the advantage of speed (Genetic Species at max detail without even a stutter) you also have the advantage of being able to crank the spec down to a bog standard A500 to run all those really old but excellent titles (Mega Lo Mania anyone).

Now it's not just appealing to someone wanting to turn back the clock for some retro gaming but it is a plausable route for someone looking to get back into the Amiga scene (which is still very alive and kicking).

To be honest configuring WinUAE could seem rather daunting however luckily enough there are some really good resources already available. However I will do my best to show you how to nip and tuck to get the best out of the system and I have also listed all the various titles I have used under WinUAE and how stable and quickly they run.
